Statistical Mechanics 2005

5 and 6 December, 2005

Theatre A, Mathematical Sciences Building

Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Melbourne

Our annual Australian Statistical Mechanics Meeting will be held this year at Melbourne University on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 December, 2005. This year the meeting is reverting to the two-day format and will cover all topics related to statistical mechanics. The URL for this web page is:

The sessions will be held in Theatre A of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Melbourne, commencing at 10.00 a.m. on Monday and 9.00 a.m on Tuesday. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available in the tea room. A table will be set up to display recent preprints and reprints.

If you plan to attend please fill out and return the attached form by email by 7 November, so that accommodation and dinner reservations can be confirmed. It may not be possible to accommodate reservations received after this date. The program will, for the most part, be filled on a first come basis but some allowances will be made to maintain a balanced program between various topics. Tentative programs will be sent out by email and placed on the web page in November.

There will be no registration fee. By popular demand, the conference dinner will be at Jim's Greek Tavern, 32 Johnston St. Collingwood at 6.30 p.m. on Monday evening. The cost of the dinner, which will include dips and bread, prawns, fish, lamb, Greek salad, dessert and coffee, will be $38 per head. Partners are welcome and vegetarian meals can be arranged if requested in advance.

Please pass on the details of the meetings to anyone else who may be interested. The timing of this meeting is to follow on from the conference on Quantum field theory and its ramifications, University of Tasmania, Hobart, 30 November - 2 December, 2005. Please also note that the First Australian-Italian Workshop on Statistical Physics: Statistical systems out of equilibrium: random systems and complex fluids will be held at Surfers Paradise from 12-15 February, 2006.

We look forward to seeing you in December.

Paul Pearce.
